The Journeyman backpack is a perfect example of versatile functionality. It is spacious and comfortable both for travel and work. With a clean and essential design, Journeyman is perfectly functional without unnecessary frills.
To create this best-selling backpack, the strengths of the best exclusive materials have been combined. The main compartment is made of waxed and oiled fabric to protect the contents of the backpack from rain, snow, or sleet, just as it has protected generations of lumberjacks and athletes in the damp forests of the rainy Pacific Northwest. The waxed fabric is a tightly woven canvas richly impregnated with paraffin in a formulation designed to achieve maximum water repellency. The robust industrial-quality twill from the renowned British Millerain brand is a 2x3 fabric characterized by exceptional abrasion and wear resistance. The padded shoulder straps are made of waxed fabric and internally lined with moleskin, a velvety cotton that enhances both grip and breathability. The contoured and adjustable shoulder straps are secured to the backpack with vegetable-tanned leather straps from Wickett & Craig, a historic tannery in Pennsylvania since 1867. In the Seattle factory, each individual bridle leather is slowly impregnated with a special eco-friendly bark-tannin solution, with added tallow and waxes during the final stages to provide softness and shine. The final result is a leather suitable for our luggage as well as for bridles and saddlery.
The spacious main compartment of the Journeyman is secured by a robust YKK® zipper, protected from water by the waxed fabric that covers it along its entire length. The zipper extends over half the length of the backpack to facilitate accessibility and visibility at every point of the backpack. The back panel and the attached protective laptop sleeve comfortably accommodate 15" laptops. Both elements are padded to protect the contents or the back from sharp or bulky loads. The expandable external pocket features snap buttons at the corners to remain discreetly compact or to expand and increase capacity when needed. The flap pocket with a snap closure that can be accessed with one hand allows for quick access without sacrificing waterproof protection for essential items. Details such as the top handle, the snap closure on the rain cover of the main compartment, and the zipper pulls are all made from bridle leather, adding an extra touch of class to this well-crafted backpack equipped with all the qualities necessary to provide years and years of excellent service.
